Simplify Change

From Home to Chrome – What is it?

Are you a regular user of windows who has ever tried to close a window on a Mac?

How about someone who routinely uses keyboard shortcuts, and is asked to use a different operating system?

Common functions in different operating systems are triggered by different ways of working.

Unless you know exactly how to do it, this adds annoyance, complexity, and frustration to your day which inevitably (unless there is a very good reason), means you gravitate back to your old system.

This is one of the reasons why Microsoft for decades has dominated with the main operating system used by people. Windows.

This is now changing as new devices, and operating systems are introduced.

Google Chrome OS is a lightweight, easy to use, efficient operating system that takes the complexity out of using an operating system, making a fast system that can be used by almost anyone who needs common functionality.

Think someone who:

  • who is editing documents all day, or someone managing calendars and email.

  • who is running through a standardised application at school, or who effectively uses one website day in and day out.

  • Someone who is on the move and needs a light, fast laptop to answer emails, or work on a presentation that doesn’t weigh a lot with excellent battery life.

Google Chrome OS is perfect for all these people, but they just don’t know it, and ALSO don’t know the ways of working on Google Chrome OS to make their transition smooth and painless.

From Home to Chrome showcases the benefits, explains why it’s great, and also educates people as to the most common tasks.

How does it do this you ask?

From Home to Chrome takes people through a short game to create their dream home. In much the same way that you customise your desktop or laptop when you first get it from the store or IT department.

So instead of putting your favourite background on your screen, you’ll choose the carpet and wall decorations for your home.

Then you’ll add accessories like sofas, lights etc instead of shortcuts to your commonly used applications, all the while being helped along by interior designer Thomas and trainer Lucy.

Whilst you move through the game, which shouldn’t take longer than 45 minutes to complete you’ll be shown short videos about the key benefits of Google Chrome OS, how it benefits particular people in particular scenarios.

But you won’t just be shown videos, that’s quite boring really, and we don’t do boring.

Our pet cat Truffles would NEVER allow that!

You’ll also be taken through explanatory screens which show you how to do common tasks like printing, connecting to a network or more advanced functionality which makes working easier like setting up a common group of applications to do a particular task.

These aren’t just click through screens, but interactive ones where you get to select different options and learn about different aspects of Google Chrome OS. Making this learning hands-on, and not just someone sitting back and clicking through a pdf or watching a series of boring videos.

To make the whole experience even more engaging you will be competing against your colleagues through short interactive games and quizzes with your score shown on a leaderboard.

Feel free to watch this introduction video which shows you how the experience works.

We haven’t just built this in isolation. With our partners Mobinergy we’ve trialled and tested this with several different clients, refining the experience and improving it to making it more fun, engaging with more reinforcement to give people the knowledge they need to smooth their transition to Google Chrome OS.

Now in version 2, we are quite confident that we can show through assessments how people’s learning and knowledge grow through this game, and how they are more receptive to moving to Chromebooks or other Google Chrome OS devices.

Providing a fun, informative way to learn which is a break from mainstream boring learning on learning and development portals that are common throughout the corporate world.

Why not watch a video about it, and let us know if you’re interested in using From Home to Chrome to help your teams' transition to Chromebooks and Google Chrome OS.

We look forward to hearing from you!
